After doing so well to beat Kuzmova in the first round, Alison (WTA-68) had to play one of the 20 best players of the world in Qiang Wang (WTA-18) in the second round at the US Open. Alison made it really difficult for her Chinese opponent. At the end of each set, Wang was just a little bit better.
Alison enjoyed a good spell right at the start and forced a first break point in this match. Unfortunately, she could not convert. As the first set went along, Wang upped the pressure a bit. A good percentage of first serves in kept Ali in it, until the 11th game of the match. At that point, Ali did have to concede her servicegame and her opponent served out the first set.
After Wang tried to put some more distance between them in the beginning of the seceond set, Alison was able to strike back immediately. But a decisive moment came at 3-3. Another break gave Wang a bit of breathing space. After 1h39 mins Alison lost 5-7 4-6
