Ali keeps her nerve in wild match

The Fed Cup match vs Errani turned into a special experience. Ali had to deal with an opponent who struggled with the toss throughout the match and watched a significant lead disappear in the second set. But Ali stayed cool and sealed the win in the third.

Belgium already led the tie 1-0 when Alison and Errani faced off in the second rubber. The Italian struggled heavily with her serve and especially with the toss. This way, a lot of time passed before the rally began and it was impossible for Ali to get much rythm. Alison did take advantage of her opponents’ weakness, winning all of Errani’s service games in the first set. This way Alison build a 4-2-lead and the two game difference remained on the board.

Alison started to cruise through her own service games and led 4-1 in the second set. Errani then started to win her own service games and made it 4 all. In the breaker, Ali battled back from 5-2 down to set up match point. Three unforced errors later, Errani had won the second set.

It didn’t throw Alison off track as she got her nose in front again in the third. Even receiving treatment on her calf couldn’t save Errani at this point. Alison went on to beat the Italian 6-4 6-7 (6/8) 6-2.
