After the US Open, Alison (WTA-68) traveled to Japan to compete in the tournament at Hiroshima (250 000 $, hardcourt). She looked pretty good in her match against fellow compatriot Ysaline Bonaventure (WTA-113). Alison won 6-4 6-2.
Alison had won their only previous meeting at Rabat in three sets. This time around, Ali looked to have even more control. At 1-1, she played 4 excellent games to take a 5-1-lead. She had two set points in the next game but couldn’t convert them. Bonaventure managed to fight back a bit and make it 5-4. At her own service, Alison then closed out the set.
In set number two, she immediately put a lot of distance between her and her opponent yet again. Ali’s dominance was also shown in the statistics: she won 16 out of the first 17 points in this set. After leading by 5 games to 0, her opponent did win two games. The qualification for the second round already looked impressive anyway. The next opponent is women’s singles is Kirsten Flipkens. A fun fact: Ali is playing together with Kirsten in women’s doubles.
