Alison (WTA-93) did not have an easy draw at the first round of Roland Garros. She had to face Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (WTA-52) to whom she already lost twice this year. But today, Ali won the battle.
In the first the Belgian broke first, but she quickly gave the lead out of hands. The level between both players was tied, but Schmiedlova got the first setpoint. She did not take the opportunity and Ali was able to win the first set in the tiebreak 7-4.
In the second set things did not look good for Ali. In no time she was 0-4 behind, but the Belgian fought back. When she was 4-5 down Alison survived eight setpoints. She got into another tiebreak where she showed her mental strenght. She held off three setpoints and won the tiebreak 9-7.
In the second round Alison will meet the 32th seed Zarina Diyas (WTA-32). Two years ago the Kazach beat Alison in two sets at the ITF tournament in Taiwan on hardcourt.
