Alison (WTA-58) was facing the most difficult assignment there is: facing the world’s best player on what’s probably her best surface. It’s definitely no shame to lose to Barty (WTA-1). Alison exited the women’s singles in the second round at Wimbledon after losing 1-6 3-6.
Alison and Barty were up first on Court 2 on the fourth day of the British Grand Slam. Barty immediately shifted to the highest gear. It was unfortunate that Alison fell just short of avoiding that second break. This way, she only got on the scoreboard in the sixth game and the first set was over after 25 minutes.
The second set started with Alison holding serve but after that Barty ran away and was again leading by 5 games to 1. Nevertheless, Alison did pretty well as the end of the match came close. Ali managed to reduce the gap and made it 5 games to 3. That seemed to be the maximum she could get out of it. Alison is still active in the doubles tournament at Wimbledon alongside Greet Minnen.
