It’s mission accomplished for Alison (WTA-58) in the first round at Wimbledon. An experienced Kuznetsova (WTA-104) turned out to be a tricky opponent but Alison managed to come out on top. Alison won 6-4 4-6 6-2.
Kuznetsova had better numbers as far as getting first serves in but Alison had a higher percentage winning points on that first serve. Ali immediately led by 2 games to 0 but had to surrender that lead. At 3-4 and a break down, it didn’t look so good. Alison responded by winning all of the remaining games in the first set.
Alison had another good period at 1-1 in the second set. As she was leading 6-4 4-1, victory was within reach. Kuznetsova did manage to turn the tables in the second set by winning the next five games. It would all be decided in the third set. Luckily Alison still had something up her sleeve and finished the match on top, winning the last four games. After 1 hour and 45 minutes, Alison had secured her spot in the second round.
