Alison (WTA-154) attempted to be one of the four remaining players at Surbiton and was within two points of winning the first set against American player Caty McNally (WTA-192). That didn’t quite work out and Ali’s opponent went on to win the match.
Alison showed her good intentions right from the start and won the first couple of games. McNally responded and made it 2 all. From that point on, it stayed really close in the first set, which ended in a tie-break. At 5 all, Alison was only two points away from winning the set. Neverthelesss, it was her opponent who ended on top in the next two points.
At 1-1 in the second set, McNally again started to apply some pressure and Alison was unlucky to lose two servicegames in which she also had opportunities herself. This meant she was trailing by 5 games to 1 and the end of the match was near. Alison eventually lost 6-7 (5/7) 2-6.
