Alison (WTA-89) has won the WTA-tournament of Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan, WTA 250). It is her sixth WTA title.
Alison faced top seed Yulia Putintseva (WTA-47) in the final. The first set went to the home player with 1-6, but then Ali came back into the match. With 6-4 and 6-3, Alison secured the title in Kazakhstan. It is her first WTA title in two years and the sixth in her career.
“After the first set I kept fighting for every point, I tried to believe in myself. It was a difficult year for me, but this gives me confidence. I could never beat Putintseva before, but now I win here in her home country, that means a lot to me,” Alison said afterwards.
Alison will pass for Indian Wells because of the long journey, and will return to action in Tenerife, followed by a few more tournaments. Thanks to her victory, Ali will again make a nice leap forward in the ranking, towards the top 50.
