The Australian Open is over for Alison (WTA D-104) after she and Greet Minnen (WTA D-158) lost a close doubles match. Shuko Aoyama (WTA D-27) and Ena Shibahara (WTA D-31) proved to be just a little bit too strong.
They did have a difficult time against Alison and Greet. The Belgian girls led by 3 games to 1 and still held the advantage after the next servicegame. Then however, it went from 4-2 to 4-4. At 5-6, the Japanese and American player forced a first set point and immediately were able to convert.
Alison and Greet had their backs against the wall after losing three straight games at 1-1 in the second set. It was impressive that they could still fight back from that point on. It was their turn to win three games in a row and this way they tied the set at 4. A tie-break would have to decide the outcome. Aoyama and Shibahara enjoyed a better start of the breaker and won the first four points. Alison and Greet could not come back from that and lost 5-7 6-7 (2/7).
