Alison will try her best today to bring down the fourth seed in St. Petersburg. Meanwhile, she enjoyed a nice doubles victory alongside Kirsten Flipkens.
Alison had beaten Kirsten in the singles draw but they play together in doubles. In their match against Kania from Poland and Sizikova from Russia, they took a significant lead as the first set went on. They also held on to win that set. In the second set, it was a slightly different story. Alison and Kirsten managed to come back from two games down twice but couldn’t do it a third time.
A match tie-break had to decide the winner. At 1-1, Alison and Kirsten won three straight points. It was a decisive moment in the match because those three points were also the difference at the end. Alison and Kirsten won 6-3 5-7 [10-7]. For Alison it was the first win in a doubles match in 2019. Kudermetova from Russia and Lapko from Belarus await in the quarter-finals.
Alison is scheduled on the Sibur Arena today to play her singles match in the round of 16 against Aryna Sabalenka. It’s the second match on that court, after Alexandrova – Martincova. That match started at 1pm local time.
