Alison (WTA-57) has reached the second round at Mallorca (Spain, WTA International), which is a great achievement. Certainly since she had to face 8th seed Katerina Siniakova (WTA-38) in the first round. Alison proved to be too strong and beat Siniakova 6-2 3-6 6-3.
Both players held serve in their first servicegame. Then, Alison started to get into her rythm and was on a roll for a huge part of the match. She won seven out of eight games. This way, she cruised towards winning the first set and things looked pretty good in the second set as well. Unfortunately for Ali, then her opponent had a better period. Ali trailed by 5 games to 2 after having a 2-0-lead.
Alison continued to fight and did have four opportunities to break back but Siniakova managed to serve out the set. Alison wasn’t bothered and immediately made the difference in the beginning of the third set to lead by 4 games to 0. Her Czech opponent did get one break back but Alison stayed in control to finish the match.
