In the second round Alison (WTA-105) had to the battle against the German Carina Witthoeft (WTA-74). They played each other already once two years ago and then Witthoeft won after two short sets. In Poland, however, it was the Belgian who got the win.
Ali did not start her match well, she was broken in the opening game. She was trailing 0-2, but came back to level the match, and at 4-3 she broke her opponent’s service game. At 5-3 she successfully served out the set, and took it 6-3.
The Belgian got off to a good start in the second set, and immediately took a 2-0 lead. She managed to keep the momentum, and also won the second set 6-3.
In the quarterfinal Ali will face compatriot Kirsten Flipkens (WTA-70) or Monica Niculescu (WTA-62), this match is played on Thursday. Alison’s quarterfinal is scheduled on Friday.
