Alison (WTA-47) faced seventh seed Barbora Strycova (WTA-42) in the quarterfinals at the WTA-tournament in Luxembourg. She lost twice before in two sets to the Czech, including last year in Luxembourg. Today, however, she got revenge by winning in two sets.
Today Alison continued the momentum of her second round match against Ivanovic. She served very strong again and made it difficult for Strycova with aggressive and varied tennis. Like yesterday she broke in the first game of the match, but Ali immediately had to allow the rebreak. It took the Belgian some time to get used to the game of Strycova. At 3-3, however, she broke the serve of the Czech for the second time and did not let the lead slip away anymore. At 5-4 she had the chance to serve out the set and the second set point was spot on: 6-4.
In the second set Ali broke Strycova’s serve immediately again. While leading 2-1 she had to allow two breakpoints at her own serve and with a double fault the rebreak was a fact. At 4-4 Alison got new break opportunities and she was lucky at the third opportunity. The Belgian successfully served out the set 6-4.
In the semifinals Alison will face Misaki Doi (WTA-92), who beat fifth seed Jelena Jankovic (WTA-22).
