Alison reached the semi-finals at the Hungarian Ladies Open. Even the second seed couldn’t pose much of a threat in the quarter-finals. Alison beat Shuai Zhang (WTA-34) 6-2 6-4.
The first set was much like the one in the second round: Alison proved to be way too powerful after her opponent won the first game. Alison converted a first break point in the third game, then won two close games and followed it up by winning the sixth game to love. Zhang did win one more game after that but a forehand into the net from the Chinese ended the first set.
Alison put a lot of pressure on Zhang’s two first service games in the second set but the Chinese survived until 2-2. A nice lob made sure Alison broke her opponent’s serve for a third time. Alison again won more than 80 percent of points on her first service and that gave her the confidence to serve out the match. Alison did in style: she won the final game to love and served an ace on match point. In the semi-finals, Alison will take on in-form lucky loser Viktoria Kuzmova (WTA-121). This match will be played on Saturday after the other semi-final.
