Alison just missed out on the quarter-finals at Mallorca. She lost her second match in Spain despite playing a terrific first set. Alison was beaten by Sofia Kenin 6-2 4-6 4-6.
Alison was hitting the right shots from the start. At 2-2 Alison won four straight games. She had a couple of break points in the sixth game. A backhand return from Ali forced Kenin into an error on the fourth break point. In the next servicegame of her American opponent, Alison prevailed again. A backhand cross-court winner from Ali decided the first set.
She did lose her next servicegame to love but quickly erased a two games to nil deficit. At 3-3, her opponent broke again. Two breakpoints for Alison to make it five all were not converted. When Kenin had set point, Alison’s return went out.
Both players hold serve in their first four servicegames in a tight third set. At 4-4 and breakpoint against, Alison decided to try serve and volley. Unfortunately Kenin was succesfull at the net and she served out the match. A good serve did most of the work for the American qualifier on match point.
