Alison (WTA-44) was seeded eighth at the WTA-tournament in Auckland and played against Alexandra Dulgheru (WTA-69) in the first round. Five years ago, both players faced each other during the grass tournament in Rosmalen and then the Romanian was the strongest in straight sets.
Today it looked better for the Belgian at first. She started the match well and steamed to a 5-0 lead. She had to let one game to Dulgheru and won the first set 6-1 in half an hour. Ali failed to keep up the momentum. She was broken twice and lost the second set 2-6. In the deciding set she was not able to turn the tide and Dulgheru took the set 4-6.
Tomorrow Alison (WTA D-107) will play doubles together with Swedish Johanna Larsson (WTA D-36). They face third seeds Anna-Lena Groenefeld (WTA D-22) and Coco Vandeweghe (WTA D-56) in the first round.
