Alison could not reach the second round at the Bronx Open. Despite the fact that she was playing well in the first set. After she lost a close second set, the momentum shifted.
Anastasia Potapova (WTA-76) would be a tricky opponent but it didn’t stop Alison (WTA-66) to build an early advantage. Ali was leading by 3 games to 1. Because she was serving well, she managed to hold on to that lead for the remainder of the first set. She immediately converted the first set point. Her Russian opponent did respond to build a lead of her own in the beginning of the second set.
Being 2-5 down, Alison did well to fight back and make it 4-5. She had already saved two set points by then. She just had to hold serve in one more servicegame to tie the set at 5 but that just didn’t work out. Potapova converted her third set point. After winning that second set, Potapova had everything going for her. Alison eventually lost 6-4 4-6 2-6.
