Today the Belgian Fed Cup team played the final of Group I of the Euro-African zone against Great Britain. Alison (WTA-43) and Ysaline Bonaventure (WTA-160) both fought hard for their victory and lead Belgium to the play-offs of World Group II.
Bonaventure played the first match against the 16-year-old Katie Swan (WTA-524). Despite the difference in ranking it was not an easy match against the British. She eventually won in three sets: 6-3 3-6 and 6-3. In the second match Ali faced Heather Watson (WTA-85). Both girls played against each other for the first time. Alison fought to a three sets victory 6-4 3-6 and 6-4. She got Belgium the decisive 2-0 lead.
The doubles was not played anymore and Belgium qualified for the play-offs for World Group II. The playoffs are played in April and the winners will play World Group II in 2017.
Afterwards the entire Belgian Fed Cup team jumped in a (freezing) pool. “That was the deal when I won,” says Alison. “The other had to dive in the water!“ (laughs)
