The first match of the new year was a doubles match for Alison (WTA D-123). Together with Kirsten Flipkens (WTA D-23), she’s into the quarters in women’s doubles at Auckland after beating an Australian and Slovenian player.
The Belgian girls had to play Monique Adamczak (WTA D-67) from Australia and Katarina Srebotnik (WTA D-57) from Slovenia. Alison and Kirsten trailed by 3 games to 1 but came right back to tie the set at 3. They even managed to win the first set after playing a tie-break. They had to chase in the second set again however after losing the first three games.
But again, Ali and Kirsten succeeded in levelling the set. At 4-4 however, Adamczak and Srebotnik managed to strike again. This meant a match tie-break would be decisive. Alison and Kirsten enjoyed the best start. Their opponents came back at first but Ali and Kirsten managed to put some distance again between themselves and the other duo. At 8-3, victory was within grasps and a couple of points later, it was reality. Alison and Kirsten won the match 7-6 (7/5) 4-6 10-6. They’re immediately one of the eight best doubles teams at Auckland.
