In Linz, Alison achieved a victory that will give her a lot of joy. For the fourth time in her career, Alison was able to beat Magdalena Rybarikova. Alison won 6-3 6-4 to reach the second round.
A nice lob from Ali gave her a first break point. She was succesfull on the second chance. Alison fired a fiery forehand and Rybarikova made an error with her own forehand. Alison made her opponent run behind the ball. Alison went for it as the Slovakian’s second serve was vulnerable.
Rybarikova did save a couple of break points and when Ali’s backhand went long in the next game, suddenly it was 4 games to 3. Alison kept the pressure on and a lovely drop shot forced another break. A deep backhand helped her win the next game to love and seal the first set.
A strong service out wide and a superb stop volley kept Rybarikova of breaking Ali’s serve in the early stages of the second set. The set was tied at 3 when Alison shifted into another gear. She broke her opponent’s service to love and decided the next game by firing a good first serve and third ball. Alison then served out the match in her next servicegame.
