It’s on to clay for Alison as she participates in Lugano this week and she already has one win under her belt on this surface. Alison was able to beat Tereza Smitkova 6-2 4-6 6-0.
Alison, who is the fourth seed at Lugano, did excellent in her first couple of games on clay. She immediately put pressure on her opponent and was able to break Smitkova’s serve twice. Both players then held serve twice and that was enough for Alison to seal the first set.
Things took a different turn though in the second set as Smitkova won two hard-fought games on Ali’s serve and was a bit more efficient on the big points. As it became clear we were heading for a third set, Alison lost another servicegame.
But Ali was fully focused when it was time for the third and looking to make the difference. That’s exactly what she did at 2-2. She won the next two games and then stood firm on her own serve to qualify for the second round.
