Alison wins tricky opener at ‘s Hertogenbosch

The Libéma Open (Netherlands, WTA International) is the next tournament in which Alison (WTA-55) participates. She started well at ‘s Hertogenbosch despite a far from easy draw. Nevertheless, Alison won her first round match 7-6 (7/4) 6-3.

Her opponent was Chinese player Wang (WTA-57), ranked only two spots lower than Alison. The expectation – that it would be a close match – came true. Alison started brightly to lead by 3 games to 1 but watched her opponent tie the set. Later on, Wang even served for the set and had set point. Alison was able to save this set point and force a tie-break. At 4 all, Alison won three straight points to win the first set.

Wang won a hard-fougth first game, which was a first step for the Chinese on her way to an 2-0 and 3-1 lead. Alison was able to turn te tables: she went from 1-3 behind to winning the set 6-3 and finishing the match without dropping a set. Her next opponent is Elena Rybakina (WTA-134).
