Alison capped off an amazing week in Hungary by beating Dominika Cibulkova (WTA-33) 6-3 3-6 7-5 in the final. A very much deserved triumph for Alison in this WTA tournament.
Like in every match she played at Budapest, Alison found herself on top in the early stages. Ali saved five break points during her first two service games and broke Cibulkova’s serve in the third game. The difference between both players remained one break until the Slovakian had to serve to stay in the set. Alison won the first set on her opponent’s serve.
Almost the same scenario in the second set but only the other way around. At 2-2 Alison dropped her serve for the first time. Cibulkova stayed in front and won the second set on Alison’s serve and on the second set point.
The fourth game of the third set proved to be an important moment as Alison erased a 0-40-deficit to win the game. Both players stayed on serve until 5-5. Then, Alison forced the decisive break and saved another break point before winning the match after 2h11mins.
