Alison (WTA-76) had to play against qualifier Xenia Knoll (WTA-291) in the first round of the ITF tournament of Poitiers ($ 100,000). Despite the difference in ranking the Swiss won in three sets.
Both players lost their service game early in the first set. However it was Knoll, who broke serve for a second time and won the first set 4-6. In the second set Alison converted one breakpoint more than her opponent, and took he second set 6-4. In the deciding set Ali had to serve to stay in the match at 4-5, but could not hold serve. The Swiss took the match 4-6.
“Today I wanted to win for my grandfather,” Alison said afterwards. “He passed away on Sunday and I would have liked to dedicate this victory to him. It was too hard to concentrate on the match as I thought of him all the time and I will miss him a lot. He was not only my grandfather, but also my godfather and I adored him.”
