Ankle injury setback for in-form Alison

After a couple of excellent weeks, 4th seeded Alison (WTA-48) hoped to also have a good tournament at Luxembourg. She was well on her way to get a first win but an injury decided otherwise.

Against qualifier Monica Niculescu (WTA-111), Alison again played as good as she did in Tahskent and Linz. It was a one-sided affair in the beginning as Alison won the first four games. It only looked a matter of time before she would win the first set. Until Alison sprained her ankle.

Ali tried to go on but she couldn’t play at her full potential anymore. The next two games were proof of that, as they were won by Niculescu. Alison knew it didn’t make sense to play on and had to retire.
