Belgium played Croatia yesterday at the Fed Cup. They had to win the encounter in order to win their group. Alison (WTA-102) scored the first point for Belgium. She played Ana Vrljic (WTA-223) for the sixth time in her career. She won five times against the Croatian in the past, and also in Budapest she won 6-2 and 6-4.
Kirsten Flipkens (WTA-59), however, was no match for the talented Ana Konjuh (WTA-99). She lost in three sets: 2-6, 6-4 and 4-6. The doubles was decisive and like the previous days Ali was part of the team. Together with Flipkens they took on Jurak (WTA-55) and Konjuh. They did not have much chances and lost 3-6 2-6.
Due to this feat Belgium remains one more year in the Euro-African zone. Today they won’t play a game for promotion but will face Hungary for the fifth to eighth place.
