Despite showing her potential in the second set, Alison couldn’t get past her opponent in the first round at Indian Wells. Alison lost to Yulia Putintseva (WTA-81) 0-6 6-2 2-6.
Putintseva came out with a lot of energy while Alison couldn’t really find her rythm. It resulted in the first set being over after six games.
Alison fought her way back into the match. A forehand winner combined with a Putintseva error gave Alison her first game of the match on her opponent’s serve. In the fifth game of the second set, Alison broke Putintseva again to love. Alison converted a first set point to tie the match.
But it was her opponent that got the better start in the deciding set, winning the first three games. At 5-2 down, the last chance of a Van Uytvanck comeback disappeared as Ali lost her service game to love.
