It was already impressive that Alison and Greet reached the second round of the women’s doubles at Wimbledon at their first attempt. It was to be expected that they would fell short against Hao-Ching Chan and Latisha Chan, two doubles specialists from Taipei, and that’s what happened.
Both of the Chan girls are in the top 20 of the doubles ranking and Latisha is even a former number one. They headed into this match as the favourites. Alison and Greet did win the second and sixth game of the match but could not avoid that the first set went in favour of Chan/Chan.
Ali and Greet’s opponents pushed on and also won the first five games in the second set. This way, the match was already decided. Alison Van Uytvanck and Greet Minnen lost 2-6 1-6 but it’s certainly an experience that will help them in the future.
