Alison (WTA-46) played Bethanie Mattek-Sands (WTA-158) in the first round at Wimbledon. The American won three qualifying matches in order to reach the main draw and is a doubles specialist. Together with Lucie Safarova she won the Australian Open and Roland Garros this year.
Alison struggled with her serve in the first set, while the America impressed with serve-and-volley. Alison lost her serve once in the first set, and so Mattek-Sands took the first set 6-3 In the second set Alison served a little better, but it was again the American who took a 5-2 lead. The Belgian was able to save five matchpoints, but she surrendered at the sixth matchpoint: 6-2.
Alison (WTA D-181) is still active in the doubles together with Hao-Ching Chan (WTA D-36) from Taiwan. They face Julia Goerges (WTA D-33) and Carina Witthoeft (WTA D-360) from Germany in the first round.
