In the quarterfinal second seed Alison (WTA106) had to battle against Vitalia Diatchenko (WTA-77), the seventh seed. The Russian won last week’s WTA-125K tournament in Taipei and proved her excellent shape in Dubai. In the first set, the Belgian managed to keep up with her opponent, but eventually lost 5-7. In the second set Ali could not turn things around, and she lost the set 2-6.
A quarterfinal at the ITF tournament in Dubai ($75 000) brings Alison around the 105th place in the world. It is still unsure whether this will be enough for a place on the main draw of the Australian Open.
