So far Alison (WTA-65) had won all the WTA finals she played. It was already exceptional that she could achieve that. However, she was finally defeated in the final at Karlsruhe, as Patricia Maria Tig (WTA-223) prevailed in three sets.
The start of the match was already difficult, although Alison worked her way into a winning position in no time. By winning four straight games, she turned an 0-2-deficit into a 4-2-lead. From that point on, she pushed on to win the set by 6 games to 3. After that first set however, everything seemed to work out perfectly for her opponent. At 6-3 1-0, seven games in a row went to the player from Romania.
At the start of the third set, Alison looked to make it a real battle again. When she had to concede a break at 2-3 down, it was a big blow. Alison eventually lost after 1h38mins 6-3 1-6 2-6.
In the doubles tournament, her story had ended in the semi-finals. Alison and Greet Minnen were no match for the Chinese duo Han/Xan. Ali and Greet tried however, they even mounted a little comeback in the first set. But the gap was already too big and things didn’t turn around in the second set neither. The match ended by Alison and Greet losing 3-6 2-6.
