Alison (WTA-67) has reached the second round of the Australian Open (Australia, Grand Slam) for the first time in her career. She beat a French qualifying player in three sets.
Alison could not win before in Melbourne. The nineteen-year-old French qualifying player Clara Burel (WTA-237) took the best start and won the first set 4-6. In the second set, both players had a hard time holding their serve. Ali fought to win the second set with 6-3 and leveled the match.
In the third set both players also remained very unstable. At 5-4, Alison could serve for the match, but she had to save two more break points. The Belgian finished with an ace on matchpoint, the match lasted 1 hour and 53 minutes.
In the second round, she will face 26th seed Yulia Putintseva (WTA-28). The Kazakh has won their three previous encounters.
