At the WTA-tournament in Hobart Alison (WTA-44) faced Carina Witthoeft (WTA-64) in the first round. Both girls played against each other three times before, and twice the German won the match. Last season, two of these encounters were played. On hardcourt Ali got the victory in two sets, but on gravel she lost in three.
On the hardcourt of Hobart Ali showed again that she was the better player. In the first set the Belgian served very well. She allowed two break points on her own serve, but saved them both. She converted two of the four breakpoints on her opponent’s serve and won the set 6-2. The second set was decided in the tiebreak, which the Belgian won 7-5.
In the second round Alison, seeded eighth, will face Eugenie Bouchard (WTA-49) or Bethanie Mattek-Sands (WTA-60).
