Alison wasn’t able to qualify for the second round at the US Open. She had to play Lesia Tsurenko (WTA-36), which clearly wasn’t an easy draw. It showed on the court as Alison was beaten 3-6 2-6.
Alison saved the first three break points, mainly because of a couple of good first serves. However Alison did lose this servicegame and Tsurenko pushed on and broke Alison’s serve again. Alison did not feel like surrendering and immediately broke back. She looked to be on her way to get things back on serve but Tsurenko didn’t waver and finished the first set at 3-6.
In the second set, Alison soon found herself trailing again. She had her back against the wall as was facing a 1-4-deficit. Like always, Alison did well to keep on fighting. She broke Tsurenko’s serve one more time but in the end didn’t have enough to beat her opponent. Despite her exit in singles, Alison will continue to play doubles in New York. She’ll enter the doubles tournament together with fellow compatriot Kirsten Flipkens. Their first opponents are Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic.
