No upset for Alison in Washington

Alison (WTA-50) was not able to upset the topseed at the Citi Open in Washington ($ 250,000). She lost to Ekaterina Marakova (WTA-12) in two close sets.

Ali was unlucky with the draw at her first US hardcourt tournament this summer. She immediately had to face the first seed, and was able to keep up with Makarova until 5-5 in the first set. She was unlucky to get broken, and the Russian took the set 5-7.

In set two the Belgian was serving well, she hit seven aces. Yet again the Russian was just slightly better on the decisive points: 5-7.

Together with compatriot An-Sophie Mestach (WTA D-117) Alison (WTA D-125) is still competing in the doubles tournament. In the first round they face Irina Falconi (WTA D-120) and Monica Niculescu (WTA D-49).
