Alison Van Uytvanck suffered a tight loss in her first match in 2018. Alison lost to the Slovenian Polona Hercog 4-6 5-7 in the first round of the ASB Classic in Auckland.
Alison got off to a great start asa she won the first game to love. Hercog, the world number 100, however soon put up more resistance. Alison was able to save five breakpoints and kept Hercog at bay during the first eight games. At 4-4, Alison conceded the only break of the first set. That was enough for Hercog to go on and win the first set 4-6.
The Slovenian quickly took the lead in the second set, but Alison put up a good fight. Alison came roaring back, forced six breakpoints and tied the second set at 4-4. Both players then won their service game. At 5-5 Alison had to concede the next two games, hearby losing the second set and the match.
