With her team trailing 2-1, Belgium team captain Dominique Monami opted to let Alison Van Uytvanck play the final singles match. Alison did a great job and crushed Pauline Parmentier 6-1 6-3. It wasn’t enough to qualify for the next round because Alisons teammates lost the decisive doubles match.
Alison got off to a ferocious start, breaking her opponents’ serve twice. It led to a 4-0 lead. Parmentier had to work very hard to finally get on the bord. Alison then again won the next two games, finishing the first set after 33 minutes.
In the next set, Alison again enjoyed an excellent start. In the first three games of the second set Alison lost only two points. Her French opponent did keep her serve from that point on. In the ninth game, Parmentier even had a chance to break back. Alison saved that breakpoint and then finished things by taking her second matchpoint. Alison beat Parmentier 6-1 6-3 after 1h7mins. Unfortunately Alisons excellent performance didn’t lead to a win for Team Belgium because Elise Mertens and Kirsten Flipkens lost the doubles match.
