World number 8 has her hands full with Alison

The excellent level of play of the last few weeks continued in the match against Kiki Bertens (WTA-8). Alison (WTA-44) did really well to win the first but in the end couldn’t qualify for the quarter-finals at Linz.

Alison had a terrific start and immediately led by 2 games to 0. It’s only logical that a player from the top ten would react but Alison impressively stood her ground in the difficult moments in the 4th and 8th game. After that, Alison could serve out the first set.

Her Dutch opponent did manage to get the break in the beginning of the second set. It was key moment ini the match. Alison came close to a rebreak a couple of times. Bertens saved three break points. In comparison to the first set, the roles were a bit reversed.

In the deciding set, Alison kept Bertens at bay in the first four games. Bertens however still had something extra in the tank. Alison fell just short of an upset and lost 6-4 3-6 3-6.
